FOUNDATION DRAWING COURSE INFORMATION
The Fine Arts Workshop Foundation Drawing Course is designed for all levels of students wanting to learn to draw or improve the fundamental techniques of figure and object drawing. Each class has a specific aim designed to teach a progressive build-up of skills. The course covers all the fundamental principles and elements of drawing as well as the major techniques and media. The classes are supplemented with slide lectures of Art Historical Master’s drawings as well as contemporary works. Foundation Drawing is available in studio or as a live online learning course.

Please note: A deposit of R1500 is required to reserve a place. The deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable. The remainder of the fee is due before the first lesson.
FOUNDATION DRAWING MATERIALS

- 1 box of willow charcoal in various sizes
- 1 stick of compressed charcoal
- 1 plastic eraser
- 2 putty erasers (Faber Castell)
- 1 sharpener
- 1 ruler
- Range of pencils (2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B)
- 1 bottle of black drawing ink (Indian ink)
- Masking tape
- 1 roll of kitchen towel
- 1 sheet of medium textured sand paper
- 1 pad of A3 sketch paper (The Canson make is best)
- 10 sheets of A1 newsprint paper or a pad of white board paper
- 3 sheets A1 watercolour paper (at least 300gms)
- Artist’s Fixative Spray
- Portfolio bag or A1 plastic sleeve
- 2 small empty jars or plastic containers with a lid (e.g. empty margarine or cream
cheese container)
- 2 dog clips
